As residents slept, flash floods entered homes, killing 180 in Mindanao - GMA News
A storm slashing through the southern Philippines has triggered flash floods and landslides that have killed nearly 180 people and forced about 100,000 from their homes, government and army officials say.
“Most were already sleeping when floodwaters entered their homes,” Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz said. “This is the worst flooding our city has experienced in years.”
Tropical Storm Sendong, with winds gusting up to 90km/h, hit Mindanao late on Friday and swept across the island, bringing heavy rain that also grounded domestic flights and left wide areas without power.
In Iligan City, which is usually spared the disastrous consequences of passing storms, residents were apparently caught by surprise despite warnings of the approaching storm. Officials said Saturday morning that they couldn’t recall the last time such a powerful flood smashed into their city.

Presenting the College of Computer Studies Geeks!! :D

MY XUFD 2011 EXPERIENCE

overall, everything was a blast! here’s somewhat an overview of what happened of the 4 fun filled days of mine:

DAY 1:

booo! to a very hard exam i took. it was called the Global Competitiveness Assessment Tool or GCAT. drained my brain cells out (which might have caused me not to enjoy much of the celebration on that day). saw my high school classmate whom i thought was still in New Zealand. A friend of mine decided that we’d try to get married by the marriage booth, but i chickened out since IT WAS TOO EMBARASSING! haha. so i ended up eating lots of food with some chinese friends.

Day 2:

free horror house ticks from a friend! fell in line at almost 5:30 in the afternoon and was able to get inside by 9:30. so much of the patience! but everything was worth the wait. the horror house was not really scary, instead it was just fun messing up with “hungry” ghosts (c’mon, they had their 30 minute dinner break, must’ve been very hungry with all the scaring they’re doing).

Day 3:

got to see another set of high school friends. we ate at the law area and i was surprised to be full with only 2 puso’s and 2 sticks of chicken skin. we left to watch the caroling competition and i was full-force supporting our college. they gave a very classy but so Filipino performance but the place went to the very harmonious and synchronized Nursing Pythons.

Day 4:

came very late in school and as i was strolling alone at the soccer field finding my friends, it was just in time to start the countdown for the dance party. people weren’t really in the mood to dance at first and all the organizers were convincing everyone to join in. luckily, the hip hop dancers from the different colleges hyped up the crowd with their energetic performances. awesome fireworks then exploded unto the cloudless sky which lasted about 5 minutes (say goodbye to all our tuition which just exploded to satisfy the eyes of everyone). Party XV was just the right thing to end the XUFD!

So, who said graduating students should not enjoy the XUFD and should just dwell on their thesis?! Speaking of, the celebration is finally over. It’s time to say hello once again to the normal face of Xavier University.

再見!! :)
